Contact Lenses
Contact lens used to be used to help eyesight but more and more people are using contacts to change their eye colors. They make contacts in different colors more people use them as a cosmetic enhancement. But they were created for people who do not like to wear glasses. Around 125 million people all over the world use contacts, the majority of contact lens wearers are from the United States. The very first idea of contact lenses was reported to be in 1508 but the very first pair of contacts were made in 1887.
Back in the day contacts were made from Plexiglas and they were not very comfortable but today they are made from soft plastic and they are much more comfortable. The corrective lenses were created to correct vision. For certain eye conditions such as near sightedness, far sightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia corrective lenses are used. They have corrective lenses for people who have color deficiencies, who are not able to see the colors they way they should.
Now the other side of the coin as we mentioned earlier is cosmetics contact lenses. These are designed to change a person's eye color. Some pairs may also correct vision as well as change eye color. In some cases, with the cosmetics lenses that a re used for just that can blurry the vision because of the color of the lenses. The FDA calls these lenses decorative lenses. Hollywood uses decorative lenses for actors in movie roles. For example, Vin Diesel wore them in the Riddick Movies, Marilyn Manson, WWE wrestler Kane and hundreds of others.
Sometimes lenses can be prescribed as therapeutic lenses, these are soft lenses that are used to treat non refractive disorders. This could mean anything from an eye injury. These lenses would be used to protect the eye from further damage. If you wear glasses now and you want to switch to contacts talk to your doctor. They make disposable lenses and soft comfortable lenses now. Ask your doctor and maybe you can try them out and see if they are right for you.
Contact lenses can be hard to put in if you are not used to them. So maybe your doctor may have you practice with the dissolvable ones and see how you do. Remember it is not how you look but how you can see
